Fortinet Secures International Music Publishing Company's Internal and Online Operations

Music Sales hits high notes with Fortinet's FortiGate™-1000A multi-threat security system and FortiGuard™ services

LONDON, July 5, 2006 - Fortinet - the pioneer and leading provider of multi-threat security solutions - today announced it is protecting the integrity of valuable copyright data and enabling international music publishing company Music Sales to run smooth, secure online retail operations. Fortinet's enterprise-class FortiGate-1000A systems and FortiGuard security services are providing Music Sales' UK headquarters and four satellite offices with comprehensive, real-time protection against network and content-based attacks.

The FortiGate-1000A is being used to augment Music Sales' existing firewall-only security solution by blocking access to websites and performing comprehensive virus scanning. The FortiGate-1000A has ensured that virus and malware payloads are stopped at the edge of the network before they reach end-users' PCs. The solution in place is now far more comprehensive and properly protects both Music Sales' corporate resources and online retail operations against an array of threats without sacrificing network performance. It is estimated that more than 1,000 incidents a month are prevented due to the new infrastructure. Music Sales is also using the Fortinet security platform to control peer-to-peer application usage and file sharing internally, to maintain the corporate network security and compliance, as well as helping to ensure that valuable copyrighted music and other data is protected, and that peer-to-peer applications cannot be used as a method for attack.

The comprehensive logging and reporting facilities available in the FortiGate-1000A have meant that Music Sales' network management team are far more aware of the pattern of traffic within the Music Sales network and are better placed to react to day one incidents.

"When evaluating security vendors for our upgrade, we recognized Fortinet as a key and powerful player in the security market," said John Herd, network manager at Music Sales. "Software solutions can't offer the level of protection or performance we require. The main attraction for us with Fortinet's solution was the integrated multi-layer security applications and services and the ASIC-acceleration offered by the FortiGate devices - which was critical for keeping our online operations running securely and at lightening speeds."

Secure, Real-Time B2C Operations
Music Sales also runs an online shop via its website which relies heavily on rapid transactions and bulletproof security to provide maximum customer assurance.

Since implementing its Fortinet security platform, Music Sales has seen the number of viruses and other attacks dramatically reduced: a result of the increased protection the FortiGate devices provide. By taking advantage of the entire suite of subscription services offered by Fortinet (FortiGuard Antivirus, IPS, Web Filtering and Antispam services), Music Sales is protected by a service that is created, updated and managed by a global team of Fortinet security professionals working around the clock to ensure the latest attacks are detected and blocked before they can harm the company's vital resources or infect end-users.

"For online retailers, network security and performance are imperative and can literally make or break business," said Andre Stewart, vice president, Fortinet EMEA. "Music Sales is fully benefiting from all the security applications and subscription services offered on Fortinet's FortiGate integrated multi-threat security platform -- enabling them to carry out business safe in the knowledge that they have robust protection for corporate and online resources."
