NTT PC Communications Upgrades Data Center Security with Fortinet's FortiGate™-5000 Series Security Platforms

Superior flexibility and High-Availability features in FortiGate-5000 increase security and reliability of WebARENA Solo™ service.

TOKYO, Japan, October 26, 2006 - Fortinet - the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions - today announced that NTT PC Communications Inc., a principal business network services and infrastructure provider in Japan, has deployed Fortinet's FortiGateTM-5000 Series multi-threat security system for its private server rental service, WebARENA Solo.

NTT PC Communications Inc. is part of the Nippon Telephone and Telegraph (NTT) Group, and provides network services such as Voice over IP (VoIP), broadband Internet connectivity, Virtual Private Networking (VPN) and hosting and co-location services. NTT PC Communications' WebARENA product line enables customers to outsource their hosting and administration tasks to the company. The WebARENA Solo program provides customers with a range of co-located servers available for rent to businesses.

A recent increase in the number of customers and servers had prompted the company's network support team to review the security systems and procedures for its data center. This task was complex because the WebARENA Solo plan had many deployment options and involved servers belonging to many different client companies with different needs and policies, and the final security solution that NTT PC Communications would deploy needed a high-degree of configuration and deployment flexibility.

The network support team initially considered Fortinet's FortiGate-800 security platform, but eventually decided to deploy a FortiGate-5000 Series system instead, because its ATCA-compliant blade chassis enabled a range of security options to be deployed as necessary, and its comprehensive support for granular virtual domains enabled NTT PC Communications to provide customized security policies for customers.

"In the hosting and server rental business, one needs to be extremely flexible to stay competitive," said Masayoshi Hosokawa, Executive Director of the Network Division in NTT PC Communications. "The FortiGate-5000 system gives us a lot of options, allowing us to adapt to the business environment quickly, while still being confident of our network security. This gives us a significant edge over our competitors. In addition, we can now also offer services such as IPS and anti-spam to our customers."

Fortinet's FortiGate-5000-series of Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA or ATCA) security chassis deliver multi-gigabit performance and integrated multi-threat protection ideal for securing high-bandwidth enterprise and service provider networks. Complete Unified Threat Management (UTM) features including content inspection firewall, VPN, intrusion protection, web content filtering, anti-spam, antivirus, and IM and P2P controls protect networks against blended attacks. The FortiGate-5000-series features unmatched scalability, reliability and performance and is designed for deployment by large enterprise and service provider customers. The FortiGate-5000-series is kept up-to-date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard security subscriptions.

"Since the release this year of our FortiGate-5000 Series products, we have seen several major telecommunications companies and service providers deploy them successfully for use in high-bandwidth environments," said Yoshimitsu Okamoto, VP of sales, Fortinet Japan K.K. "Our technology has shown that UTM devices can scale beyond Small and Medium Enterprises. We expect this trend to continue, and even to pick up steam over the next twelve months."
