Jinwen Institute of Technology Selects Fortinet's Carrier-class Security System

Leading technology college in Taiwan deploys Fortinet's FortiGate-5020 system to protect its campus network from viruses, worms, and other malware

TAIPEI, Taiwan, October 8, 2005 - Fortinet - the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions - today announced that Jinwen Institute of Technology, a leading technology college in Taiwan, has chosen Fortinet's carrier-class FortiGate-5020 system to protect its network and users against viruses, worms, Trojans and other malware.

With an advanced campus-wide network that supports more then 12,000 students and academic staff, Jinwen Institute of Technology needed to ensure the availability of its network, and protect critical academic data against content-based attacks originating from both inside and outside the network. When the college's previous security infrastructure was unable to help defend against the increasing outbreaks of viruses coming from peer-to-peer (P2P) networks, Jinwen decided that they needed a better security solution. After an evaluation period, Jinwen selected Fortinet's FortiGate-5020 system because of its capabilities for real-time network protection, impressive performance and continuous push updates.

"We chose Fortinet's FortiGate-5020 system for our network protection needs because of its comprehensive security features, reliability and performance," said, Dr. K.C. Lo, computer center director for Jinwen Institute of Technology. "Fortinet's FortiGate-5020 system simplifies network threat management for Jinwen and delivers us the necessary early-warning capabilities for possible attacks. As a result, I now have peace of mind regarding the security of our network infrastructure."

Fortinet's FortiGate-5020 system is a cost effective, multi-function security platform designed for large enterprises, service providers and carriers. The FortiGate-5020 system features integrated firewall, antivirus, VPN, intrusion prevention, Web content filtering, anti-spam and traffic shaping functions. Based on the revolutionary FortiASIC™ Content Processor chip, the FortiGate-5020 system can detect and eliminate network threats without reducing network performance. All FortiGate-5000 Series chassis and blades comply with the AdvancedTCA industry standard, which is a new series of specifications for the next generation of carrier grade communications equipment.

All of Fortinet's FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard™ Network, which provides continuous updates that ensure protection against the latest viruses, worms, Trojans and other threats - around the clock and around the world.

"Educational institutes, such as Jinwen Institute of Technology, have special network security needs because campus network administrators must provide open network access to various groups with different application requirements, while ensuring that certain security standards are met without slowing down network performance," said Jens Andreassen, vice president, international sales for Fortinet. "We are pleased to provide Jinwen with our FortiGate-5020 system to deliver the carrier-class security functionality to meet its campus' specific network protection needs, including a robust suite of essential security features and the high performance capabilities required to ensure its security standards are met with out slowing down the network."
