Report by Fuji Chimera Research Institute Attributes Fortinet's Leadership to the Ease of Use, Cost-Effectiveness and Superior Performance of FortiGate Systems
TOKYO, Japan, September 6, 2005
- Fortinet - the confirmed market leader in Unified Threat Management and only provider of ASIC-accelerated, network-based multi-threat security systems for real-time network protection
- today announced that Fortinet was ranked the leading integrated network security appliance vendor in Japan, according to a recent published report by Fuji Chimera Research Institute.
Fuji Chimera's report, "A Comprehensive Study of Network Security Vendors, 2005" named Fortinet the market leader by revenue share in the integrated security appliance sector. The integrated security appliance market grew from 1.7 billion yen in 2004, to 2.3 billion yen this year, and is forecast to reach 3.8 billion yen by end 2006. Fortinet's market share of 70.6%, or 1.2 billion yen, in 2004 is estimated to reach 1.3 billion yen by the end of this year. The study attributed Fortinet's success in the market to the ease of use, cost-effectiveness and superior performance from ASIC-based hardware acceleration in Fortinet's FortiGate antivirus firewalls, factors which made Fortinet's products particularly suited to small- and medium-sized networks. The growing number of SoHo and SMB businesses, branch and satellite offices also contributed to Fortinet's success.
The report defines security appliances as products that feature network intrusion detection and prevention, antivirus, firewall and VPN capabilities, or any other security functions. Integrated security appliances are defined as integrated gateway appliances which incorporate two or more of these security functions into one hardware device. Fuji Chimera predicts that as more companies see the importance of network security, integrated security appliances will become increasingly popular, because of their ease of management and lower deployment costs.
Fortinet's FortiGate Series of unified threat management systems deliver the highest level of security available by combining a suite of best-in-class applications that include firewall, antivirus, IPS, VPN, Web filtering, anti-spam and traffic shaping. FortiGate systems detect and eliminate the most damaging, content-based threats from e-mail and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions, inappropriate Web content and more in real time - without degrading network performance. The systems have been awarded certification from the Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Augmented (EAL 4+) and NSS, and are the only security systems in the world to hold seven certifications from the ICSA. FortiGate systems add a critical layer of real-time, network-based antivirus protection that complements host-based antivirus software and supports "defense-in-depth" strategies without compromising performance or cost.
"This latest research from Fuji Chimera Research Institute validates Fortinet's multi-threat integrated network security approach and the significant customer adoption we've seen in Japan," said Yoshimitsu Okamoto, vice president of Japan at Fortinet, Inc. "We are proud of our achievements and look forward to continuing to uniquely meet the network security challenges facing customers, as well as continuing to grow our leading market share."
